1. Don’t Chase Money

This can be quite difficult to take in as a new blog owner. After all, you started your blog to make money in the first place.

What is really important is that you focus on creating a brand and grow your following online such that you can establish yourself as an expert in your niche.

Besides, there is no way you will make money off your blog if no one is reading it.

Create high quality content that is helpful to your readers and in turn they will keep coming back to your website for more information.

They are also more likely to purchase from your affiliate links if they trust you.

So concentrate on building trust in your niche and you will reap more in the long run.

I personally struggled to monetize my website with Adsense within the first few months without success.

After I realized I had set myself up for failure, I decided to focus more on creating useful information for my visitors and that paid off in the long run.

2. Create Useful Engaging Content

This is perhaps the most important thing you will learn from this blog post.

This is without doubt the heart of success in the bogging business.

You have probably heard the phrase, “Content is King”. From my many years of blogging, I can confidently say this is what separates the highly successful blogs from those that don’t get to celebrate their first anniversary or birthday party.

All the successful bloggers out there have one particular thing in common, they create useful content that helps their visitors and audiences solve different problems.

Is there a particular service you can offer within your niche to solve challenges people are facing?

If you can offer solutions to various problems your potential audience is likely to face then you can build your business on that basis  and make lots of money making a difference in other people’s lives.

Besides, why will people continue coming to your site if there is no value being added to them?

3. Be patient

This is one of the hardest things to do as a blogger.

The truth is it will take you months if not a year before your blog gets noticed and you can increase revenue from it.

This can be quite difficult to accept especially given the amount of time and resources you are burning every day.

Most of the very popular blogs you see on the internet made it big after a year or two of consistent blogging.

So don’t be discouraged and give up too soon.

It will be worth it after that small time of waiting. That goes without saying it is entirely possible to make it big with blogging even in your first months but that’s very rare.

Majority of people have to wait 4 to 6 months before your hard work gets noticed and they can stand making a decent amount of money working online.

So in the end, you will be glad you were patient. So keep producing high quality content and growing your business in the meantime.

4. Create an email list from day one

I wish someone had told me this the very first time I ventured into blogging.

This is one of the most important aspects of growing your blog especially if you intend on monetizing your blog.

Many newbie blogs ignore this very crucial aspect of creating a profitable blog.

I personally wish I had started earlier to create my email list.

Had I started earlier, I would have made my first $1000 dollars blogging sooner than I did.

You can read more on how to build and create an email list here

An email list will not only allow you to reach more people with your content but also increase your revenue through affiliate marketing.

Don’t wait for years to create your email list like I did. I personally had the mentality that creating email lists was for very popular sites and won’t benefit me as a newbie blogger.

I can see now just how wrong I was.

Unlike social media platforms like Facebook Twitter and Pinterest whose algorithm keeps changing every now and then like the weather, you can always fall back on your email list to build your business since you have more control over it.

You can also check out this post that offers a fresh perspective on how you can make money  online even as a newbie blogger.

You can take advantage of free resources such as free guides, courses or ebooks to use when building your list.

Offer something free to entice people to subscribe to your list.

You need to give people a reason to subscribe to your list.

It could be a free ebook, course or unique information they may not find elsewhere on the web.

People love free things and you can be sure they will give up their emails in exchange for a freebie.

5. Create a well-designed and easy to navigate blog

Ever visited a website only to click off as soon as you visited it?

Well no one wants to waste their time trying to figure out what your blog is about or where to find the information they find.

As you design your website, have your readers in mind.

Create an easy to navigate and simple website to enhance user experience on your website.

Make your website look professional by choosing a good theme and laying out all important information nicely and neatly across your website.

You can also see this blog post on the 8 best WordPress themes for blogs to help you decide on the perfect theme for your blog.

Make sure you categorize all your blog posts so people can easily find the information they are looking for.

This will not only decrease your bounce rate but also increase the likelihood of people buying through your affiliate links.

6. Interlink between your posts

Many new bloggers make the mistake of not interlinking their blog posts which usually results in high bounce rates.

It is important that you share related articles within your blog posts to keep your visitors and readers longer on your site.

This is also an important ranking factor on google since it increases the overall authority of your site on a particular subject matter hence more traffic from search results.

Also link to old articles within your new blog posts. This will increase visibility on your older content.

7. Invest in knowledge and skills

The truth is becoming successful as a logger and making millions of dollars on autopilot form the comfort of your home is very possible.

But it is not as easy as it seems.

Not investing in useful skills and knowledge is one of the common blogging mistakes to avoid as a blogger.

It takes a lot of handwork and effort to make a decent amount of money working online.

Focus on educating yourself and improving your expertise in your chosen niche or area of specialization.

Read books, listen to podcasts and take courses on business, online marketing and entrepreneurship.

I personally recommend focusing on marketing since this is something you will be doing most of your time as an affiliate marketer or blogger.

8. Consistency is key

If there is something that will be obvious to your visitors that you are a newbie is inconsistency.

To be honest, blogging can be quite boring and you might feel like giving up along the way.

You might start wondering why you started out in the first place.

There are times you will feel like “Uggghh….It’s not worth it.

I get it because I have been there. I know just how it feels.

Things might seem like they will never change but just hang in there.

From my experience, when many bloggers reach this point in their blogging journey they tend to take breaks which usually do more harm than good.

So taking long breaks from working and creating new content for your blog is one of the common blogging mistakes to avoid if you want to see faster results.

Your audience will start wondering where you disappeared to and you can be sure that they will disappear too.

These long breaks also create an impression of unprofessionalism on your part and as a result your audience will lose trust in you.

They will not buy from your links which will significantly impact your earnings.

As a beginner to blogging, it is important that you keep consistent and produce more high quality content along the way.

Publishing content regularly will also help you with SEO as the algorithm will start pushing your content on google especially if you are practicing basic SEO practices.

9. Network with other bloggers

You have probably heard the saying, “If you want to go fast, walk alone but if you want to go far walk with others.”

This saying is also true when it comes to blogging.

It is important that you network with other bloggers in your niche, share ideas and build meaningful and useful relationships.

This will allow you to help each other grow and the results will be amazing.

When I started out, I got help from many  amazing blogger friends who helped me easily manage with some rather technical aspects of blogging.

So join Facebook groups and Pinterest boards where you can easily connect with other bloggers and help each other grow.

10. Let Passion drive you

Finding success in blogging will take more than just hard work.

You have to zero down on a niche you understand well and one you are very passionate about.

This way, blogging will be more than just some stressful activity but rather a hobby that pays you well.

Individuals that start out with the wrong motives are the ones that easily give up within the first few months of blogging.

You have to be willing to stick around for the long haul.

Find topics that you close to your hearts, those you can write about with great enthusiasm.

11. Treat your blog as a business

This is among the many things that differentiate the really successful bloggers from those that fail.

Unless you are simply blogging as a hobby with no intention of monetizing it, you ought to treat your blog as a business rather than just another hobby of yours.

Just like you won’t do certain things at your place of work, then please don’t do them on your blog if you are serious about making money from it.
